On Friday 11 September 2026, we had the opportunity to visit the Disobedience Archive with Ângela Ferreira, whose artwork provides the exhibition display for the archive curated by Marco Scotini.
The Disobedience Archive is a transforming and travelling video archive with more than one hundred documentary and art films that focus on various of forms of resistance, social struggle, and collective action. The Lisbon edition was inaugurated during the XVI Lisbon Summer School for the Study of Culture (29 June – 3 July 2026), organized by the Lisbon Consortium and Escola das Artes, UCP.
During the visit, we learned about the inspiration behind Ângela Ferreira’s artwork and the artistic path that took shape in apartheid-era South Africa. The selection of films at Galeria Fundação Amélia de Mello feature Ângela Ferreira’s film Adventures in Mozambique and the Portuguese Tendency to Forget (2016) that invites the viewer to question colonial archives and memory, as well as seventeen other films around the world under the themes of Gender Disobedience and Insurgent Communities and Colonialism.
The Disobedience Archive can be visited until 21 September, 14-18:00 every business day (UCP Lisbon, Library building).
